This picture was taken a couple of days after ‘my’ arrival at home. GrossMueti came over to take some pictures in front of our kitchen window. Today, I am so thankful for these pictures and know that I am lucky to have had parents and grandparents who had a camera and used it often !

After all the festivities in Saintes, we headed towards the ocean.. took the ferry across La Gironde and found a little village called Le Verdon

Wonderful short stay before heading back to Bordeaux for another couple of days..
We had time for just one more excursion in the vicinity and chose Saint-Émilion. The Romans planted vineyards in what was to become Saint-Émilion as early as the 2nd century. In the 4th century, the Latin poet Ausonius lauded the fruit of the bountiful vine.
Voilà, one of the best trips I have taken in a while, great place and space to celebrate our 10th year, to fall just a little bit more in love with my man and to find some of the freedom I have been craving.
So this year we were invited to celebrate friends wedding in Saintes, France. We debated on whether to bring our daughter but as it was all happening during the first few days of school, we thought best to leave her here, well looked after. That said.. we hadn’t been on vacation just the 2 of us in many, many years AND this year, 2011, is our 10th anniversary year !! What better region to visit, amongst adults, as a wine region (or 2)…
Saintes (where the wedding took place) is located on the banks of the Charente River. The city is located 60 km southeast of La Rochelle, 33 kilometers northeast of Royan and about 100 km north of Bordeaux. We flew into Bordeaux:
then made our way to Saintes and stayed at the amazing Abbaye aux Dames:
We were spoiled with a guided tour by the brides father, amazing !!
so close to the Atlantic, you can imagine… Les moules !!!
and then, a beautiful wedding ! a toast !

It was nice to finally meet this family, we had to reschedule at least 2x because of the weather (Montreal has been a ‘tad’ wet this past month) With a sunny forecast, we went to one of my favorite parcs on Île des soeurs (the one off of chemin du golf, with the frogs and ducks – I can’t remember the name right now..)
